Police arrest suspected secessionist member in Anambra, recover firearms

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old suspected member of a proscribed secessionist group in Ihiala during an intelligence-led operation conducted in the early hours of November 20, 2025.

in statement  the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ikenga Tochukwu said operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, apprehended the suspect, identified as Friday Nnamdi Anyikame, and recovered two pump-action firearms along with 29 live cartridges.

According to the Command, the suspect confessed during interrogation to being an active member of an armed group and disclosed that he operates from a criminal camp located in Ogbaru Local Government Area.

Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, commended the officers for their swift and coordinated action and directed an immediate escalation of security surveillance and targeted raids across the state. He assured residents that efforts were underway to track down other fleeing members of the network and dismantle the group’s operations.

CP Orutugu urged residents of Anambra to remain vigilant and provide timely, credible information to aid ongoing security efforts.
