Troops of Sector 1 under Operation WHIRL STROKE have neutralised two suspected terrorists and recovered an automatic firearm during a coordinated patrol in Benue State.

The operation, conducted along the Katsina-Ala–Zaki Biam Road in the Amafu Iwer area, followed actionable intelligence provided by local residents. Acting on the tip-off, troops mobilised alongside operatives of the Benue State Civil Protection Guard to intercept the suspects.

According to military sources, contact was made with the armed group upon arrival at the identified location, leading to a firefight. Two of the suspects were neutralised during the engagement, while others reportedly escaped into nearby bushland, some believed to have sustained gunshot wounds.

Subsequent exploitation of the area led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, a loaded magazine, eight rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and a green camouflage uniform abandoned by the fleeing suspects.

The Force Commander of Operation WHIRL STROKE, Major General Moses Gara, commended the troops for their gallantry and swift response, noting that sustained offensive operations continue to degrade criminal and terrorist networks within the Joint Operations Area.

He also lauded members of the local community for providing credible intelligence, describing civilian cooperation as critical to operational success. The commander urged residents to maintain their collaboration with security agencies, assuring them of the military’s continued commitment to protecting lives and property.

Major General Gara further emphasised the need for sustained synergy among security agencies and relevant stakeholders to consolidate gains and ensure lasting peace and stability across Benue State.
