Troops repel terrorist attack in Borno

Troops of the Nigerian Army operating under the Operation HADIN KAI have repelled a terrorist attack on a military position in Ngoshe, in Gwoza Local Government Area, restoring full control of the location after a swift counter-offensive.

According to military authorities, the terrorists launched the attack on the troops’ position on March 3, 2026. Reinforcement teams from the Forward Operating Base in Pulka and the 151 Battalion were immediately deployed to support the troops holding the position.

During the reinforcement operation, the lead Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle struck an improvised explosive device (IED), which damaged two of its tyres. Despite the incident, the troops continued their advance towards the location.

A special reinforcement team led by the Commander of the 26 Task Force Brigade, Gwoza, Nasirudeen Abdullahi, later arrived at the scene. He coordinated a counter-attack that forced the insurgents to retreat from the area.

During the pursuit and exchange of fire, the troops recovered three AK-47 rifles and the barrel of a General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG) from the fleeing terrorists. The Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI also provided close air support during the operation, reportedly neutralising several insurgents.

Following the successful reoccupation of the position and subsequent clearance operations, Brigadier General Abdullahi commended the troops for their gallantry and resilience. He urged them to maintain pressure on terrorist elements operating in the area.

The military said troops remain resolute in denying terrorists freedom of action and will continue aggressive operations to ensure lasting peace, security and economic stability across the North-East.

The statement added that the morale of the troops remains high and operations in the theatre are ongoing. The military high command also praised the soldiers for their courage and called for sustained operational momentum in the fight against insurgency.
