The Embassy of the Russian Federation in Nigeria has hosted a classical music concert in Abuja as part of efforts to strengthen cultural relations and people-to-people engagement between Nigeria and Russia.
The event attracted diplomats, academics, cultural enthusiasts and members of the public, and featured performances by three young musicians from the Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory.
Speaking at the concert, the Russian Ambassador to Nigeria, Andrey Podelyshev, said the initiative was supported by the Russkiy Mir Foundation and the Department for Multilateral Humanitarian Cooperation and Cultural Relations of Russia’s Foreign Ministry.
He described the concert as the first of its kind organised by the embassy in several years and a deliberate move to revive cultural exchanges between both countries.

According to the envoy, the event represents more than a musical performance, serving as a platform to deepen cultural dialogue and mutual understanding.
Podelyshev also acknowledged the support of key Nigerian institutions, including the National Universities Commission, which provided the venue, as well as the Federal Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy and the Nigeria Immigration Service.
Special recognition was given to Abba Music School for coordinating the event and facilitating the participation of the visiting musicians.
The ambassador expressed optimism about expanding cultural exchanges, including opportunities for Nigerian artists to perform in Russia and showcase the country’s cultural heritage to international audiences.
Guests were treated to a selection of classical works from Russian and global repertoires, highlighting the technical skill and artistry of the performers.
The event also created a platform for interaction among diplomats, students and music lovers, underscoring the role of cultural diplomacy in fostering international cooperation.
Observers say the concert reflects renewed efforts by Russia to deepen engagement with Nigeria through education, the arts and cultural exchange.
