Kaja Kallas, the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, has reaffirmed the bloc’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with Nigeria and the wider West African region.
During her visit to Nigeria for the EU–Nigeria Ministerial Dialogue, Kallas underscored the importance of deepening cooperation based on shared values, mutual interests, and tangible development outcomes. She highlighted the role of the EU’s Global Gateway in advancing critical investments in regional connectivity, trade, and economic resilience.

Kallas also reiterated the EU’s strong partnership with the ECOWAS Commission, describing it as central to promoting democracy, stability, and multilateral cooperation across West Africa. Both sides emphasized the need for closer collaboration in addressing evolving regional and global challenges.
In Abuja, the EU envoy convened a meeting with representatives of all 19 EU Member States and commissioned the newly completed Irish and Belgian embassy buildings at Europe House, symbolizing a strengthened diplomatic presence and unified European engagement in Nigeria.
The visit reflects a renewed commitment by both the EU and Nigeria to build a resilient and forward-looking partnership capable of delivering meaningful impact in a complex global environment.
