EFCC detains three over alleged counterfeit currency ring in Ilorin

The Ilorin Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has taken three suspects into custody over their alleged involvement in the circulation of counterfeit foreign currencies.

The suspects include a 51-year-old father of ten, Akilu Salisu, from Malumfashi Local Government Area of Katsina State; a self-acclaimed cleric, Umar Mikailu Shuaibu, from Kafor Wambari area of Kano State; and Salisu Nura, from Garki Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

According to preliminary investigations, the suspects are linked to the distribution of counterfeit foreign currencies, including United States dollars and pounds sterling.

Findings indicate that the illicit currencies were intended for delivery to Shuaibu, while Salisu was identified as the final recipient within the distribution network.

The anti-graft agency said investigations are ongoing to unravel the full extent of the alleged counterfeiting operation and to bring all those involved to justice.
