NAF airstrikes decimate terrorist enclave in Borno

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has recorded a major operational breakthrough following a precision air interdiction mission targeting terrorist elements at Kangarwa in the Northern Tumbuns area of Borno State.

In a statement, Director of Public Relations and Information at NAF Headquarters Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame said the operation, conducted on April 1, 2026, at approximately 1205 hours, was executed by the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI under the Joint Task Force North East. According to official sources, the strike was based on credible intelligence, further corroborated by Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance missions which confirmed significant terrorist presence and sustained hostile activity within the enclave.

Military authorities disclosed that several insurgents were observed moving within structures and concealed positions prior to the attack. Following positive identification and target confirmation, NAF air assets carried out multiple strike passes, delivering precision fire on designated targets.

The bombardment reportedly destroyed key infrastructure, including logistics hubs, and neutralised scores of fighters, significantly degrading the operational capacity of the террорист enclave. The strike is also said to have disrupted insurgent movement and created favourable conditions for advancing ground forces to consolidate gains and conduct follow-on clearance operations.

Further assessments indicate that the operation dealt a substantial blow to fighters linked to the Islamic State West Africa Province, with the group’s command and support structures in the area suffering major setbacks.

The NAF noted that the successful coordination between air and ground forces underscores the growing operational synergy within Operation HADIN KAI and reflects ongoing efforts to dismantle terrorist strongholds and deny insurgents freedom of action across the theatre.

Commenting on the development, the Chief of the Air Staff, Sunday Kelvin Aneke, reaffirmed the Air Force’s commitment to sustaining intelligence-driven precision strikes in close coordination with ground troops until all террорист enclaves are neutralised and lasting security is achieved.
