EFCC busts Yahoo Yahoo training academy in FCT, arrests 31 suspects

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested 31 suspected internet fraudsters following a raid on an alleged cybercrime training facility operating in Becki Estate, Karu, Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

The operation, carried out on Thursday, April 9, 2026, led to the arrest of two suspected ringleaders alongside 29 trainees reportedly undergoing structured internet fraud instruction at the facility.

Items recovered from the premises include mobile phones, 18 laptop computers, and other digital devices believed to have been used in the training exercise.

Preliminary investigations by the Commission indicate that some of the trainees were recruited from Benue State under the guise of securing legitimate employment. Upon arrival at the facility, they were allegedly provided with computers, communication devices, and specialised software for cyber-related activities.

The EFCC further disclosed that the trainees were confined within the premises, with restricted movement and limited contact with the outside world, as their mobile phones were reportedly confiscated upon entry.

Investigators also allege that disciplinary measures within the facility included physical punishment to enforce compliance among recruits.

The Commission stated that the suspects will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of ongoing investigations.
