Police detain officer in viral video amid alleged illegal duty/political clash in Kogi, as CP initiates probe

The Commissioner of Police for the Kogi State Police Command, CP Bethrand C. Onuoha, has taken swift action in response to a widely circulated video that shows a police officer amidst a political clash in Idah, bleeding and injured.

According to the Command Police Public Relations Officer SP William Ovye Aya, CP Onuoha has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the matter to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

In a statement addressing the video, CP Onuoha unequivocally condemned the events portrayed in the footage. He further revealed that the Deputy Commissioner of Police responsible for the Criminal Investigation Department has been assigned to lead the inquiry.

The Kogi State Police Command, through this statement, reiterates its unwavering commitment to maintaining the highest standards of election security management. The command vows to uphold the principles of fairness and provide a level playing field for all political parties during campaigns, rallies, and other related activities.

CP Onuoha took the opportunity to issue a stern warning to any individuals contemplating acts of violence aimed at undermining the electoral process in the state.
