- Apprehends nine members of irredentist group
Nigerian Army troops on Saturday subdued Yoruba Nation fighters dressed in foreign military camouflage who attack the State Secretariat Agodi, Ibadan, Oyo State
Confirming the incident, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations, affirmed that upon receiving reports of the attack, troops promptly responded to the scene.
According to Nwachukwu, the troops encountered adherents of the Yoruba Nation attired in foreign military garb, complete with berets, and armed with a variety of dangerous weapons aboard buses and motorcycles. Engaging in a shootout upon encountering the Nigerian Army troops, the Yoruba Nation adherents were swiftly subdued due to the superior firepower and tactical prowess of the army personnel. Consequently, the attackers retreated in disarray.


In the aftermath of the engagement, nine members of the irredentist group were apprehended, and a Semi-Automatic Pump Action rifle along with ammunition were recovered. Nwachukwu assured the public that efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining fleeing adherents, emphasizing that the situation is under control. He underscored the army’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of the general populace, urging citizens to remain calm and vigilant.
Nwachukwu encouraged the public to report any suspicious activities to the appropriate security agencies, reaffirming the army’s dedication to maintaining peace and order in the region while prioritizing the safety and security of the citizenry.
