In a recent development, the Defense Headquarters has taken decisive action following the tragic demise of the Manager of Damgrete Hotel in Umuahia, Abia State. The Defense Headquarters announced on Sunday that all personnel engaged in the interrogation process of the deceased hotel manager have been apprehended. A preliminary investigation is currently underway to determine the precise cause of the hotel staff’s death.
Acting Director of Defense Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, extended condolences to the immediate and extended family of the deceased, expressing sympathy for their loss. Furthermore, General Gusau assured the family that if any member of the Defense personnel is found responsible for the manager’s death, they will face legal repercussions to the fullest extent of the law. The Defense Headquarters affirmed its commitment to thorough scrutiny, leaving no aspect unexplored in uncovering the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
The incident in question involves the alleged drowning of Cadet Officer Emmanuel Chidiebere Onyemereche from the Nigerian Defense Academy at Damgrete Hotel’s swimming facility on April 9, 2024. Following this event, Operation UDO KA in Abia State summoned four hotel staff members for interrogation. Although initially released unharmed, one of the questioned individuals later succumbed to health complications, according to information provided by the hotel.
While expressing sorrow over the loss of a staff member, Operation UDO KA reaffirmed its commitment to operating within legal boundaries. The organization emphasized that all individuals involved in the interrogation process have been detained, signaling the seriousness with which the Defense Headquarters approaches the matter.
