The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested eight suspected members of a vandalism gang and recovered five stolen streetlight poles during an anti-crime operation in Abuja.
The suspects were arrested at about 3:00 a.m. on October 23, 2026, by operatives attached to the Central Police Station during a routine patrol within the city centre.
The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, disclosed this in a statement, identifying the suspects as Sani Musa, Ashiru Adamu, Markus Joseph, Suleman Ibrahim, Jamilu Umar, Usman Aliyu, Uzairu Sani and Shafiu Bala.
She said preliminary investigations indicated that the suspects belonged to a criminal gang specialising in the vandalism and theft of public and private infrastructure across the FCT.
According to the statement, their areas of operation included the Central Business District, Maitama, Wuse, Garki and Asokoro.
The police recovered five long streetlight poles, which had been cut at their bases and were suspected to have been stolen.
Adeh said the suspects and recovered exhibits remained in police custody, adding that they would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The Command urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons and activities to the nearest police station.
It also provided emergency contact numbers 08032003913 and 08061581938 for reporting security concerns.
