- FG calls for enhanced collaboration on sustainable projects
In commemoration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration’s first anniversary, NNPC Ltd., alongside joint venture partners Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC), TotalEnergies, and Nigeria Agip Oil Company (NAOC), in partnership with the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), has commissioned the 25.7km Ogbia-Nembe Road in Bayelsa State.
According to Chief Corporate Communications Officer NNPC Ltd., Abuja Olufemi Soneye, valued at N24.5 billion, the road travers’s mangrove forests, featuring seven bridges and five culverts, and connects 14 communities. At the ceremony in Nembe on Monday, the Minister of the Niger Delta, Engr. Abubakar Momoh, representing President Tinubu, highlighted the project’s alignment with the President’s “Renewed Hope Agenda” for sustainable regional and national development. The President urged other oil companies to join forces with NNPC Ltd. and NDDC in delivering transformative projects.
NNPC’s Chief Upstream Investment Officer, Mr. Bala Wunti, represented by Mr. Obinna Aralu, expressed satisfaction with the project’s completion, describing it as a symbol of progress and opportunity for the Nembe people, enhancing transportation, economic activities, and quality of life.
SPDC Managing Director, Mr. Osagie Okunbor, emphasized the road’s transformative impact on community connectivity and economic activity, reiterating Shell’s commitment to beneficial partnerships. NDDC Managing Director, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, affirmed the commission’s dedication to addressing community needs through project completion.
Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, represented by Deputy Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, praised the collaborative effort. The event was attended by numerous dignitaries, including Sen. Asuquo Ekpeyong, Hon. Erhiatake Ibori-Senu, Mr. Chiedu Ebie, King Edmund Daukoru, and King Dumaro Charles Owaba III.
The Ogbia-Nembe Road’s completion marks a significant milestone in NNPC Ltd. and partners’ efforts to boost infrastructure and sustainable development in the Niger Delta.
