Tinubu does not interfere with EFCC operations, says Olukoyede

Ola Olukoyede, Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), affirmed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu demonstrates strong political will by refraining from interfering in the EFCC’s operations.

During a courtesy visit to the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi (Ojaja II), Olukoyede stated, “Since my appointment, the President has never called to impose any directive on the Commission’s activities. Instead, we have received substantial support from the Federal Government.”

He emphasized the Commission’s autonomy and commitment to fighting corruption and holding political office holders accountable. Olukoyede praised President Tinubu for his unwavering support despite criticisms from some elites and political figures.

Expressing gratitude to the Ooni for his support, Olukoyede reassured that the EFCC is dedicated to ensuring the country’s resources benefit all Nigerians. He highlighted the creation of a new department, “Fraud Risk Assessment and Control,” aimed at scrutinizing budgetary allocations to ensure accountability in government ministries, departments, and agencies.

Oba Ogunwusi commended Olukoyede for his commitment to combating corruption and praised the collaborative initiatives with relevant stakeholders. He also acknowledged President Tinubu’s non-interference, reinforcing the importance of collective efforts in achieving a corruption-free nation. The monarch assured continued support for the EFCC’s mission.
