Enugu police recover firearm, arrest three for motor battery theft

Police operatives from the Emene Division of the Enugu State Command, in collaboration with local citizens, recovered a Beretta pistol and 36 rounds of 9mm ammunition on June 16, 2024, at approximately 7 p.m.
In a statement Police Public Relations Officer Enugu State Command State Headquarters, GRA, Enugu DSP Daniel Ndukwe said the items were found abandoned in a bush at Airport Corner, Old Abakaliki Road, Emene, suspected to be left by fleeing criminals under police pursuit for alleged armed robberies.

In a separate operation, police from the Awkunanaw Division arrested Eze Ebuka (24), Nnamdi Chukwuemeka (21), and Friday Ilo (31) on June 7, 2024, around 2 p.m. The arrests followed a covert operation after receiving complaints about motor vehicle battery thefts at a construction site in Awkunanaw, Enugu.

Ebuka and Chukwuemeka, caught in the act, confessed to the thefts during interrogation and revealed that they sold the stolen batteries to Ilo. The police recovered 15 batteries from various vehicles, including articulated trucks, cars, and a tricycle.

The suspects are set to be arraigned and prosecuted following the conclusion of investigations.
