The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has strongly condemned the recent violence in Rivers State, where clashes between political factions over Local Government Council chairmen tenure led to the deaths of Police Inspector David Mgbada and vigilante member Samuel Nwigwe at Eberi-Omuma in Omuma LGA.
In a statement Force Public Relations Officer ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi said the IGP has directed the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, to heighten security and initiate thorough investigations into the killings. The Force Intelligence Response Team (IRT) has been deployed to assist in apprehending the perpetrators. The IGP warned against attacks on security operatives, promising strict legal consequences.
The IGP has also called for increased patrols, strategic officer deployment, and enhanced intelligence operations to prevent further violence and ensure resident safety. He extended condolences to the families and colleagues of the deceased, honoring their dedication and sacrifice.
The IGP urged residents and political stakeholders to resolve differences peacefully.
