The Plateau State Police Command has arrested the creator of a viral TikTok video that incited violence in connection with a planned nationwide protest.
The video, posted from the TikTok account “Dam-Mallam68,” urged the public to attack security operatives and burn down critical infrastructure in Plateau State.
In a statement Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Plateau State Command, Jos DSP Alfred Alabo said on July 27, 2024, the Command was alerted to the video, prompting the Plateau State Commissioner of Police, CP Emmanuel Olugbemiga Adesina, to deploy tactical units to trace and apprehend the suspect. On July 28, 2024, at around 11:30 AM, Suleiman Yakubu, a 34-year-old male from Jos North, Plateau State, was arrested at Ahmadu Bello Way, Jos, following a tip-off. In custody, Yakubu confessed to creating the video. Investigations are ongoing.
He said CP Adesina emphasized that the Police will firmly resist any attempts to destabilize the state and called for peace before, during, and after the protest. He urged residents to remain law-abiding and to avoid making inciting comments that could threaten state security. The public is encouraged to report suspicious activities and any misconduct by officers to the provided emergency and complaint response unit numbers.
