Nigerian Army troops neutralize five terrorists, recover arms; dozens surrender

In a series of coordinated operations, the Nigerian Army has achieved significant successes in the ongoing fight against terrorism. On 12 August 2024, troops conducted a raid on an Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorist enclave in Bama Local Government Area, Borno State. The operation led to the neutralization of five terrorists and the recovery of two Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) bombs, two Dane guns, one RPG bomb charger, one AK-47 rifle magazine, 23 rounds of 7.62 x 54 mm ammunition, six motorcycles, and assorted medications.

In addition, sustained offensive operations in the North East have forced 44 Boko Haram terrorists and their families to surrender to troops stationed in Bama, Dikwa, and Gwoza Local Government Areas.

Elsewhere, in Plateau State, troops apprehended a notorious cattle rustler, Mallam Maawuya Shuaibu, in Mararaban Kantom, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area. The suspect, linked to various criminal activities across Barkin Ladi, Riyom, and Mangu Local Government Areas, was caught with 32 rustled cows.

In Bayelsa State, troops raided suspected criminal hideouts in Korokorosie Community, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, arresting Donald Emason and recovering a revolver pistol and two locally fabricated guns. Additionally, troops in Akinyele Local Government Area of Oyo State arrested a suspected gun runner, Mohammed Bello, 33, who admitted to supplying arms to a notorious kidnap syndicate.

These operations underscore the Nigerian Army’s commitment to eradicating terrorism and criminality across the nation.
