The Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla,on Thursday, August 22, 2024, paid a heartfelt condolence visit to the family of the late Lieutenant Commander Gideon Yashim Gwaza.
Lieutenant Commander Gwaza tragically lost his life in the early hours of July 30, 2024, while leading a heroic rescue mission to save 59 individuals from a dredging vessel, MV AMBIKA 4, that was at risk of sinking at the Okpobo River entrance.


During the visit, Vice Admiral Ogalla expressed deep sympathy to the widow and children of the late officer, urging them to find strength in the legacy of their beloved husband and father. He assured them that the Nigerian Navy would never forget Lieutenant Commander Gwaza’s extraordinary sacrifice and would continue to support the family in his absence.
The visit, though solemn, offered encouragement and comfort to the grieving family. Vice Admiral Ogalla was accompanied by key naval officials, including the Chief of Administration, Rear Admiral Kennedy Ezete, the Director of Veteran Affairs, Rear Admiral MY Dahiru, and the Commander of the Naval Unit, Commodore ST Lengaya.
