The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, has emphasized that terminal promotions in the military are strictly reserved for officers whose contributions to the growth and development of the Services are truly exceptional.
In a statement, Director of Public Relations and Information Nigerian Air Force Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet, the CAS made this statement during the recent decoration of Air Vice Marshal Amos Bulus with his new rank.
According to Air Marshal Abubakar, the promotion of AVM Bulus is not merely about adding another stripe to his shoulder but recognizing a career marked by excellence and an unwavering commitment to progress. He highlighted that this promotion acknowledges the countless hours of work, the challenges faced, and the senior officer’s dedication to advancing the Nigerian Air Force (NAF).
Air Marshal Abubakar commended AVM Bulus for his pioneering initiatives, particularly as the first Director of Information Technology within the NAF. His implementation of the NAF-operated online recruitment and enlistment platform has revolutionized recruitment processes, making them more efficient, transparent, and accessible. Additionally, AVM Bulus was instrumental in designing the NAF electronic document management and paperless system, further pushing the boundaries of innovation within the Service.
In his welcome address, the Chief of Administration (COA), Air Vice Marshal Idi Sani, disclosed that AVM Bulus’s record and performance were thoroughly reviewed, leading to his terminal promotion approved by the Air Force Council on June 24, 2024, effective from August 2, 2024. The COA described the promotion as well-deserved and a testament to the NAF’s commitment, under the leadership of Air Marshal Abubakar, to honor the dedication and achievements of its personnel.
The decoration ceremony, attended by AVM Bulus’s family, friends, and colleagues, also marked his commencement of retirement from the NAF. His promotion, conducted outside the typical timeline, underscores his significant contributions to both the NAF and the nation.
The event reaffirms the CAS’s commitment to encouraging and motivating personnel who demonstrate unparalleled dedication and loyalty to the Service.
