Police apprehend three vandals, seize mini bus and railings

In the Tom Jones area of Lagos Island, operatives from the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Lagos Police Command have apprehended three individuals suspected of vandalism. The swift action led to the recovery of a mini bus, two carts, and sections of bridge railings.

According to SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Command in Ikeja, the suspects were apprehended around 02:45 AM on a Saturday during a routine patrol conducted by RRS operatives in the vicinity. The individuals in question, namely Faruk Abubakar (32), Yusuph Balogun (36), and Timothy Dauda (49), attempted to escape upon spotting the police presence and left behind a Suzuki mini bus, colloquially known as a “korope,” with the license plate BDG 315 YA.

In addition to the abandoned mini bus, the suspected vandals also left behind two carts, lengths of aluminum railings believed to have been unlawfully removed from the Third Mainland Bridge, a hammer, and a hand saw.

Hundeyin highlighted that the apprehension of these suspects aligns with a series of recent similar arrests of vandals conducted by the RRS team led by CSP Olayinka Egbeyemi. The arrested individuals have subsequently been brought before the court to face legal proceedings.
