CGI dismantles unauthorized border checkpoints, orders enhanced patrols

The Comptroller General of Immigration (CGI), Kemi Nandap, has ordered the dismantling of all unauthorized immigration checkpoints along Nigeria’s borders. In a decisive move aimed at bolstering national security, Nandap also mandated routine patrols to prevent irregular migration and unauthorized entry into the country.

The announcement was made on Friday in a statement released by Kenneth Udo, spokesperson for the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS). The CGI’s directives were issued during a meeting with Border Command Comptrollers and Commanders at the NIS Headquarters in Abuja.

The CGI emphasized the need for rigorous border security, highlighting that Nigeria’s current security landscape demands additional protective measures to prevent infiltration by criminal elements. She instructed border officials to employ supervisory strategies, ensure prompt reporting of significant movements, and professionally manage sensitive intelligence requiring immediate action.

Additionally, Nandap ordered the immediate submission of audit reports on manpower and logistics, underscoring the importance of robust inter-agency collaboration for effective intelligence sharing. These reports are to be submitted weekly through the approved channels.

The meeting also provided an opportunity to review border operations and refine policies aimed at enhancing national security. Nandap reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to deploying e-solutions, continuous training, and improving the welfare of officers in the field.
