The 81 Division of the Nigerian Army has commenced a full investigation into an incident that led to the death of a police officer following a confrontation with a soldier on October 9, 2024, in Lagos. The altercation reportedly arose from an alleged traffic violation.
According to a statement by Deputy Director Army Public Relations 81 Division, Nigerian Army Lieutenant Colonel Olabisi Olalekan Ayenifrom the the soldier involved has been apprehended and handed over to the Military Police for investigation and potential disciplinary action.
The Nigerian Army expressed deep regret over the incident, emphasizing its commitment to upholding the Army’s Code of Conduct and Rules of Engagement. It further stressed its ongoing efforts to prevent actions that could harm the Army’s reputation or undermine cooperation with other security agencies.
The General Officer Commanding 81 Division extended condolences to the family of the deceased officer and the Nigeria Police. The Army assured the public that a thorough investigation would be conducted and appropriate measures taken to ensure justice.
The 81 Division reaffirmed its dedication to working with other security agencies to maintain peace and protect lives and property, in line with its constitutional duties.
