Nigeria Customs extends aircraft import duty verification exercise

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced a one-month extension of its verification exercise for the recovery of import duties on privately owned aircraft. Initially set to conclude on October 14, 2024, the deadline has now been moved to November 14, 2024.

This extension aims to accommodate aircraft operators who have shown interest in regularizing their import duties, offering them an additional opportunity to comply with the relevant regulations. The NCS emphasizes the importance of ensuring that all privately imported aircraft adhere to legal requirements, promoting transparency and accountability within Nigeria’s aviation sector.

Aircraft operators are urged to take advantage of the extended period to meet their obligations, as failure to do so could result in sanctions once the new deadline passes. Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to upholding import duty laws and maintaining the integrity of the aviation industry. He also expressed appreciation for the ongoing cooperation from stakeholders.

The NCS remains focused on ensuring compliance and welcomes further engagement from aircraft operators during the extension period.
