NDLEA anticipates more drug seizures on waterways with British Government facility donation

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) expects increased interceptions of illicit drugs at Nigeria’s waterways and seaports, following the donation of a state-of-the-art Marine Command Headquarters by the British Government.

Chairman of the NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (Rtd), speaking at the commissioning ceremony in Lagos, noted that the enhanced capacity of the agency will strengthen its efforts to combat drug cartels operating via maritime routes. Marwa emphasized the strategic importance of international cooperation, citing recent seizures of over 61,000 kg of drugs and the arrest of 41 suspects in maritime operations.

British Deputy High Commissioner Jonny Baxter highlighted the UK’s commitment to fighting drug trafficking alongside Nigeria, noting that the collaboration has already yielded significant results.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by Mrs. Abimbola Hundeyin, praised the NDLEA’s role in enhancing security in Lagos and thanked the British Government for the crucial support. The new facility is expected to further empower the NDLEA’s marine operations in curbing the global drug trade.
