The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has disbursed over N2.9 billion as insurance benefits to the families of 150 officers who died in active service.
Among those honored was Corps Commander Useni Nauokhi, who lost his life in an ambush by Boko Haram insurgents in Yobe State. His next of kin received a cheque of N12.9 million from the Commandant General of the Corps, Dr. Ahmed Audi, during a ceremony held at the NSCDC Headquarters in Abuja.
Other beneficiaries include the daughter of Assistant Commandant General (ACG) Helen Amakiri Omavvayen, who collected N23.5 million, and the family of Commandant Isaiah Madina, who was given N17.7 million. The families of other fallen officers, including Commander Sanya Wasiu, Commander Ogbonnaya Ifeyinwa, and Assistant Corps Commander Peter Lillian, also received significant payments.
During the Commandant General’s Quarterly Meeting, Dr. Audi highlighted the gallantry of officers who died combating insurgency and praised their contributions to national security. He stated that the disbursements were part of the government-approved insurance claims aimed at compensating the families of fallen heroes.
Audi also addressed the Corps’ progress, noting that in the past three years, the NSCDC has prevented over 100 kidnap attempts and intercepted numerous acts of sabotage, including the destruction of 350 illegal refineries and the arrest of 20 trailers carrying vandalized rail tracks. He praised President Bola Tinubu and the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, for their efforts in improving the welfare of NSCDC personnel, including the promotion of over 3,000 officers this year.
