Police recover ₦129bn counterfeit notes, arrest gunrunners, rescue 36 kidnapping victims

The Nigeria Police Force, led by Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has recorded significant achievements in its ongoing fight against crime and criminality.

 In a statement, Force Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters, Abuja. ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi said on December 8, 2024, police operatives in Gwale, Kano State, recovered counterfeit currencies totaling ₦129.54 billion, including $3.36 million in counterfeit U.S. dollars, CFA 51,970 in counterfeit francs, and ₦1.44 million in fake naira.

He said acting on credible intelligence, the operatives apprehended Nura Ibrahim with counterfeit notes and multiple ATM cards. Subsequent investigations led to the arrests of his accomplices, Muhammed Muntari and Usman Abdullahi, and the recovery of additional counterfeit currencies.

Adejobi said said on December 9, 2024, police operatives intercepted three suspected gunrunners on the Kaduna-Kano Expressway. The suspects—Buhari Suleiman, Jamil Yakubu, and Aliyu Abdullahi—were found in possession of 216 rounds of 9mm live ammunition and one AK-47 round. The arrests were made following a search prompted by their suspicious activities.

On December 8, 2024, 36 individuals kidnapped along Mairairai/Bena Road in Danko/Wasagu LGA, Kebbi State, were rescued by police operatives. The victims, mostly farmers returning from their fields, have been debriefed, and the local community assured of sustained security efforts.

 IGP Egbetokun reaffirmed the police force’s resolve to combat economic sabotage, gunrunning, and other crimes threatening national security. The force continues its vigilance to ensure public safety and uphold the rule of law.

These achievements highlight the Nigeria Police Force’s relentless pursuit of justice and protection of citizens.
