MNJTF delivers solar-powered borehole to Cross Kauwa community

The Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) has commissioned a solar-powered borehole with a 10,000-liter tank capacity in Cross Kauwa, a community approximately 130 kilometers from Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, Nigeria. This initiative underscores the MNJTF’s commitment to improving living conditions in the Lake Chad region.

The Force Commander (FC) of the MNJTF, Major General Ibrahim Sallau Ali, inaugurated the facility during a ceremony attended by senior military officials from Sector 3 Monguno, MNJTF headquarters, and representatives of Defence Council International (DCI).

Major General Ali highlighted the importance of the borehole in providing reliable access to clean water, reducing waterborne diseases, and enhancing the well-being of Cross Kauwa residents and surrounding areas. He credited the European Union and its partners under the DCI framework for their generous support in making the project a reality.

“This facility symbolizes our shared commitment to the fundamental right of access to clean water,” said General Ali, urging the community to maintain the facility to ensure its longevity. He revealed plans for additional projects, including healthcare services and school renovations, contingent on the effective management of the borehole.

Brigadier General MF Babayo, Acting Commander of Sector 3, emphasized the project’s alignment with United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 6, which seeks to ensure clean water and sanitation for all. The borehole is equipped with advanced features, including solar-powered water treatment, microfilters, a high-voltage pump, and an automatic chrome dispenser. A solar-powered streetlight has also been installed to illuminate the area at night.

Retired General Ciaizzo Stephane, a representative of DCI, praised the collaboration between the MNJTF, DCI, and EU in addressing the needs of communities affected by Boko Haram insurgency in the region.

The Bulama of Cross Kauwa, Shehu Subairu, expressed gratitude to the MNJTF, stating that the water facility reflects the task force’s genuine concern for improving the quality of life in the community.

This initiative is part of MNJTF’s broader efforts to foster sustainable development and strengthen ties with local communities in the Lake Chad region.
