The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses Commission (ICPC) has released the findings of its Phase 6 Constituency and Executive Projects Tracking Initiative (CEPTI) and the 2024 Ethics and Integrity Compliance Scorecard (EICS).
At a press conference held on Thursday at the ICPC headquarters in Abuja, Mr. Demola Bakare, Director of Public Enlightenment and Education, outlined the Commission’s progress in tackling corruption through these initiatives.
Highlights of CEPTI Phase 6
CEPTI evaluates constituency project implementation across sectors like education, health, and infrastructure to promote accountability. Phase 6 led to multiple criminal cases now in court, and financial recoveries included:
- ₦346 million in cash recovered.
- Assets worth ₦513 million reclaimed.
- Savings of approximately ₦30 billion for the government.
Building on these results, the ICPC has expanded tracking to 1,500 projects across 22 states under Phase 7, ongoing through December 2024.
Findings from the 2024 EICS
The Ethics and Integrity Compliance Scorecard assessed 330 Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) using metrics like management culture, financial systems, and administrative practices. Results showed:
- 29.55% of MDAs achieved substantial compliance.
- 51.62% partial compliance.
- 15.91% poor compliance.
- 2.92% non-compliance.
Mr. Bakare emphasized that the EICS is a preventive tool to enhance adherence to ethical standards and anti-corruption measures. Non-compliant MDAs will undergo a System Study and Review in 2025 to address gaps.
Broader Impact
Mr. Olusegun Adigun, Director of the Systems Study and Review Department, highlighted the initiatives’ role in raising public awareness and mobilizing citizens to fight corruption. He stressed that the battle requires collective efforts beyond the work of anti-corruption agencies.
The reports reaffirm ICPC’s dedication to transparency, accountability, and ethical governance, driving systemic improvements and delivering measurable results in the fight against corruption.
