NSCDC apprehends six vandals in Abuja during Yuletide patrol

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested six suspects for allegedly vandalizing public infrastructure across various locations in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) during the festive season.

Speaking at the NSCDC FCT Command headquarters on Tuesday, Commandant Dr. Olusola Odumosu commended his personnel’s dedication to enforcing the Corps’ mandate. He vowed to intensify efforts to eliminate acts of vandalism and protect critical national infrastructure.

“It is disheartening that some individuals sabotage public amenities meant for the welfare of FCT residents,” Odumosu stated. “However, we are resolute in our commitment to safeguarding these assets and ensuring that offenders face the full weight of the law.”

The suspects, currently under investigation, will be prosecuted accordingly, he added. The Commandant also called on residents to assist the Corps by providing timely information to aid in crime prevention and enforcement.

Among those apprehended was Salihu Mohammed, 27, caught vandalizing armored cables at Life Camp, Kado. Mohammed Gadahfi, 28, and Musa Ibrahim, 18, were arrested along Yar’Adua Expressway near the airport road; Gadahfi was caught dismantling solar panel poles and billboards, while Ibrahim was found in possession of vandalized bus body parts.

Three other suspects, Suleiman Yusuf, 21, Ibrahim Mudassir, 27, and Kabiru Sani, 22, were apprehended with various stolen items.

The arrests were made during the Command’s routine patrols aimed at ensuring the security of lives and the protection of critical assets during the yuletide period.
