Just In: EFCC dismisses 27 officers for fraudulent activities and misconduct

In its ongoing commitment to uphold integrity and eliminate corrupt elements within its ranks, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has dismissed 27 officers in 2024 for various offenses related to fraudulent activities and misconduct.

The dismissals were based on the recommendations of the EFCC’s Staff Disciplinary Committee and were approved by the Executive Chairman, Mr. Ola Olukoyede.

Mr. Olukoyede reiterated the Commission’s zero-tolerance stance on corruption, emphasizing that no officer is exempt from disciplinary actions. He assured that all allegations against EFCC staff would be thoroughly investigated, including the recent $400,000 claim involving an unidentified staff member and a Sectional Head. The EFCC’s core values remain inviolable and are upheld at all times.

The Commission also warned the public about the activities of impersonators and blackmailers who are fraudulently using the Executive Chairman’s name to extort money from high-profile suspects under investigation.

Recently, Ojobo Joshua and Aliyu Hashim, members of an alleged syndicate, were arraigned before Justice Jude Onwuebuzie of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court, Abuja. They were accused of contacting a former Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority, Mr. Mohammed Bello-Kaka, and demanding $1 million for “soft landing” on a non-existent investigation.

Mr. Olukoyede reaffirmed his commitment to integrity, stating that he cannot be influenced by monetary inducements. The public is encouraged to report such unscrupulous individuals to the EFCC.

Additionally, the EFCC is aware of attempts to blackmail its officers by those being investigated for economic and financial crimes. The Commission urges the public not to give credence to these malicious efforts by suspects seeking to discredit investigators who have resisted their attempts at compromise.
