A gas explosion occurred late Saturday night at Tasiu Gas Plant, located beside Kalasma Filling Station in Sabon Wuse, along the Kaduna Expressway, causing extensive damage to property.
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), through its Minna Operations Office, confirmed receiving the report from the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) at approximately 11:00 p.m. on February 8, 2025. According to officials, the explosion resulted from the transloading of gas from a tanker to a surface tank, which led to an uncontrollable fire outbreak.
The inferno completely engulfed both the gas plant and the tanker involved in the operation. A parked vehicle belonging to Abubakar Yakubu was also consumed by the flames. The fire further spread to the nearby Ngeil Grains Processing Factory, where it destroyed approximately 550 bags of beans and six bags of soya beans stored in the facility.
Emergency responders, including the fire service and local authorities, swiftly intervened to contain the blaze and prevent further escalation. By the time of this report, the fire had been successfully extinguished, and no casualties were recorded.
Authorities have urged the public to exercise caution when handling highly flammable materials and adhere to safety regulations to prevent similar incidents in the future. Investigations are ongoing to determine any lapses in safety protocols that may have contributed to the explosion.
