The Department of State Services (DSS) has called for enhanced intelligence-sharing with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to combat terrorism financing in Enugu State.
This was emphasized during a courtesy visit by the Enugu State DSS Director, Mr. Humphrey Ohikhuare, to the EFCC’s Enugu Zonal Director, Commander CE Mohammed Shuaib Bello. Ohikhuare commended the EFCC’s role in tackling corruption and financial crimes, highlighting its impact on national economic stability.
“Our collaboration is essential to tracking illicit financial flows that sustain terrorism. By sharing intelligence, we can disrupt these funding sources and curb criminal activities in Enugu State,” Ohikhuare stated.
Bello welcomed the initiative, reaffirming the longstanding partnership between the DSS and EFCC. “Terrorism cannot thrive without financing, and intelligence-sharing is key. The EFCC remains committed to working closely with the DSS to achieve our shared mandate,” he said.
In a related development, the Enugu State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Commandant Elijah Etim Willie, also visited Bello to advocate for stronger collaboration in tackling economic sabotage. He emphasized the importance of inter-agency synergy in addressing financial crimes and vandalism.
Bello assured continued support, noting that the EFCC has a history of successful cooperation with the NSCDC, particularly in prosecuting cases of pipeline vandalization.
These discussions underscore the commitment of security agencies to strengthening cooperation in intelligence-sharing and law enforcement to enhance national security.
