Edo State Government reaffirms commitment to staff and citizen welfare

The Edo State Government has restated its dedication to improving the welfare of both government employees and residents, ensuring that the benefits of democracy are visible even at the local government level.

The newly appointed Commissioner for Local Government, Community and Chieftaincy Affairs, Sir (Dr.) Lucky Eseigbe, made this commitment during his inaugural meeting with the ministry’s management and staff. He emphasized the government’s resolve to create a supportive work environment while enhancing the quality of life for citizens.

Employment and Economic Development Initiatives

Sir (Dr.) Eseigbe highlighted the state government’s recent approval of the immediate employment of 360 cleaners into the civil and public service, along with 50 graduates from various fields. He noted that the government aims to employ 1,000 youths in the first phase of the recruitment drive, which has already commenced.

He underscored the importance of engaging staff effectively, pledging that the ministry will address gaps and ensure that workers are properly placed to enhance service delivery.

Boosting Agriculture and Economic Resilience

The Commissioner also stressed the need for local governments to revitalize agricultural activities, urging the 18 Local Government Areas (LGAs) to return to farming. He described agriculture as a key strategy for achieving food security and reducing the rising cost of commodities, reinforcing the state’s drive for self-sufficiency and economic stability.

Enhancing Infrastructure and Basic Services

Sir (Dr.) Eseigbe called on LGAs to improve access to essential services, including potable water, paved roads, and quality healthcare. He stated that these improvements would reflect the true dividends of democracy.

Commitment to Staff Welfare

Responding to staff concerns, the Commissioner assured that Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo remains committed to the welfare of workers and the well-being of Edo State citizens. He emphasized that the governor’s administration is focused on creating a better Edo for all.

Ministry’s Readiness and Staff Support

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Mr. George Igberaese, welcomed the Commissioner and affirmed the ministry’s readiness to implement the governor’s mandate. He highlighted the deployment of Community Development Officers to all 18 LGAs to enhance grassroots coverage.

The Chairman of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria, Edo State Chapter, Comrade Joseph Wasah, commended the governor’s leadership style and assured the government of the civil servants’ continued cooperation and support.
