The United Kingdom (UK) and Nigeria have launched the Creative Industries Technical Working Group as part of the UK-Nigeria Enhanced Trade and Investment Partnership (ETIP). This initiative aims to strengthen bilateral ties and drive growth in key creative sectors, including film, TV, music, fashion, architecture, advertising, and gaming.
The launch, which took place in London on Tuesday alongside a match-making event for UK and Nigerian creative industry leaders, marks a significant milestone in fostering cross-border innovation and commercial collaboration.
A statement from the British High Commission in Nigeria highlighted the initiative’s potential to boost job creation, unlock new market opportunities, and enhance creative and cultural exchange. A Terms of Reference and joint workplan for 2025 were also agreed upon to guide the Group’s focus and strategic direction.
Florence Eshalomi MP, the UK’s Trade Envoy to Nigeria and Co-Chair of the Working Group, stated that the initiative would drive stronger trade ties, create new jobs, and enhance market access for creative industries in both countries.
Mr. Obi Asika, Director General of the National Council for Arts and Culture and Co-Chair of the Working Group, noted that Nigeria’s creative economy, driven by Nollywood, Afrobeats, and fashion, holds global influence. He emphasised the need for strategic investment and institutional support to sustain long-term growth.
The launch event included senior government officials and industry stakeholders from both countries, setting the stage for deeper collaboration and meaningful outcomes for creative businesses and talent.
