Police sanction officers over viral misconduct videos in Benin City and FCT

The Nigeria Police Force has identified and commenced disciplinary action against officers implicated in viral videos showing unprofessional conduct in Benin City.

Following a video posted on April 26th by an online blog, officers attached to the Zone 5 Zonal Counter-Terrorism Unit (ZCA), accused of highhandedness around Airport Road, Benin, have been summoned to the Force Headquarters, Abuja. They are currently undergoing an orderly room trial — the formal disciplinary process under police regulations.

In a related development, an Assistant Superintendent of Traffic (AST), captured in a separate viral video on May 5th displaying conduct inconsistent with police standards, has also been summoned to Abuja. He has been formally issued a query as part of ongoing administrative measures.

The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its commitment to transparency and accountability, assuring the public of updates as the disciplinary proceedings progress. The Force also thanked citizens for speaking out and upholding professional standards within the service.
