Troops repel terrorist attack on Gajibo base, kill five insurgents

Nigerian Army troops under Operation HADIN KAI successfully repelled a coordinated attack by terrorists affiliated with Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad (JAS) and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) on the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Gajibo Village, Dikwa Local Government Area of Borno State, on the night of May 22, 2025.

The attack, which began around 10:20 p.m., was met with a swift and effective response from troops stationed at the base. Reinforcements from the Brigade Headquarters and the 134 Special Forces Battalion arrived promptly, enabling a successful counter-attack that led to the reoccupation of the base.

At least five terrorists were neutralized during the operation. Troops also recovered a cache of arms and equipment, including an AK-101 rifle, a magazine with 13 rounds of 5.56mm NATO ammunition, 51 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, 16 rounds of 5.56mm NATO ammunition, one unexploded grenade, a Baofeng radio, two terrorist masks, a torchlight, a pair of desert boots, and other items.

In a statement, Lieutenant Colonel Ajemasu Yake Jingina, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for 7 Division, affirmed the Nigerian Army’s unwavering commitment to defeating terrorism in the region.

“The troops of Operation HADIN KAI remain resolute and undeterred in their mission to eliminate terrorist threats and restore peace in the Northeast,” he said.

The Nigerian Army continues to intensify its counter-insurgency operations across Borno State and other parts of the Northeast, reinforcing its determination to safeguard lives and secure national territory.
