Troops neutralise bandit, recover weapons in Plateau

Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 3 Division/Operation SAFE HAVEN have neutralised a bandit and recovered arms during a raid on a criminal hideout in Teng Village, Qua’an Pan Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The early morning operation on May 23, 2025, was based on actionable intelligence, according to a statement by Major Samson Nantip Zhakom, Media Information Officer for Operation SAFE HAVEN. Troops engaged armed bandits at their hideout, forcing them to flee under heavy fire. One bandit was killed in the ensuing gunfight, while blood trails along the retreat path suggest others sustained serious gunshot wounds.

A subsequent search of the area led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, a magazine, and 11 rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition. The recovered weapons are currently in military custody for further investigation.

Troops remain in pursuit of the fleeing suspects, reaffirming their resolve to eliminate criminal elements threatening peace and security in the region.

Operation SAFE HAVEN, tasked with maintaining stability in Plateau and surrounding states, has consistently intensified its efforts against non-state actors, Zhakom noted, pledging continued action to disrupt criminal operations in the area.
