The Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI), Dr. Orji O Orji has commended Imo State Governor Senator Hope Uzodinma for his effective utilization of the 13% derivation allocation.
Dr. Orji gave this appreciation at 2023 National Extractive Dialogue (NED). The event revolved around the theme “Host Community Development Trusts: Catalysts for Equitable Benefit-Sharing and Sustainable Prosperity for All.”
In his opening remarks at NED 2023, Dr. Orji extended his heartfelt appreciation to Governor Uzodinma and the Imo State community for their hospitality.
He commended the Governor’s diligent efforts to mobilize and allocate resources for the development of the state, particularly in the context of enhancing the well-being of oil and gas host communities.
Dr. Orji emphasized NEITI’s keen interest in Governor Uzodinma’s initiatives, highlighting the significant achievement of commissioning hospitals in Ohaji Egbema and Oguta Local Government areas. These achievements were funded through the 13% derivation allocation, and Dr. Orji encouraged the state government to continue these efforts, recognizing their importance.
Dr. Orji underscored NEITI’s legitimate interest in collaborating with Spaces for Change to host the NED 2023 conference. This collaborative effort aimed to create an expansive platform for stakeholders to delve into the operational mechanisms of the Host Community Development Trust. This platform would facilitate comprehensive discussions and deliberations on its functionality and impact.
