The Director General of the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR), Dr. Joseph Ochogwu, has expressed deep sympathy to the families of those affected by the devastating flooding in Mokwa, Niger State.
The flood, which occurred on May 29, 2025, has claimed over 150 lives and displaced thousands, leaving many without shelter, livelihoods, or access to basic necessities. The disaster, reportedly linked to the release of water from the Kainji Dam, has caused immense hardship across the affected communities.
In a condolence message, Dr. Ochogwu conveyed the IPCR’s heartfelt condolences and emphasized the urgency of coordinated efforts to alleviate the suffering of the victims. He noted that the flooding highlights the pressing need for timely and effective humanitarian assistance, calling for empathy and solidarity in this time of crisis.
The IPCR urged government agencies, international organizations, and civil society groups to step up their support for the affected communities, providing food, shelter, medical care, and psychosocial assistance. The institute reaffirmed its commitment to promoting human security and well-being, underscoring the importance of collective action in addressing the immediate needs of those impacted by the flooding.
