The 1971–1975 alumni of Government Secondary School (GSS), Omu-Aran, Kwara State — popularly known as the Gateway Set — will on Friday, July 4, celebrate their Golden Jubilee with a series of impactful legacy projects and commemorative activities.
In a statement issued in Ilorin, the Chairman of the Central Planning Committee, Prof. Tajudeen Akanji, said the anniversary will feature the launch and dedication of several infrastructure projects sponsored by the alumni. The day will also include a courtesy visit to the Olomu of Omu-Aran, a communal walk, and a keynote lecture on “National Development and the Imperative of Peace and Security,” to be delivered by Comrade Isa Aremu, Director General of the Michael Imoudu National Institute for Labour Studies.
Prof. Akanji disclosed that the Kwara State Government has expressed interest in partnering with the Gateway Set to upgrade the school’s infrastructure. The celebration will also feature a dramatic performance titled “Flight Ticket” by the school’s drama group.
The event, to be chaired by retired Major General Yemi Abidoye, will be attended by top government officials, traditional rulers, and accomplished alumni from diverse sectors. Prominent old students expected include Bishop Caleb Atolagbe; Mr. Olusegun Abifarin, the school’s first alumnus and longest-serving principal; Alhaji Mufutaudeen Balogun, former MD of Harmony Security; and Navy Captain Yekini Mustafa (rtd).
Others include Dr. Dele Ige, Dr. Segun Dogunro, Dr. Depo Agboola, Engineers Kayode Adeoti, Dauda Awojobi, and Jacob Oyedepo; Chief Stephen Ayelabola; Mr. Tunji Oyinloye; Adegoke Olanrewaju; James Aina; Professor Funsho Afolayan; Professor Olabode Bamgbola, among many distinguished members of the Gateway Set.
The celebration underscores the Set’s commitment to education, community development, and national progress.
