The United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (U.S. CDC), in partnership with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, has concluded the first cohort of the Regional Public Health Emergency Management Training in Abuja.
Seventeen public health emergency operations centre personnel from Nigeria, Benin, Ghana, Sierra Leone, The Gambia, Liberia, and Mali participated in the two-week intermediate-level training aimed at strengthening the region’s capacity for epidemic and pandemic response.
In a statement, the U.S. Embassy in Nigeria said the participants acquired key skills in operating incident management systems essential for effective outbreak preparedness and response.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony, Acting Programme Director of the U.S. CDC Division of Global Health Protection, Asmau Aminu-Alhaji, commended the graduates for their commitment to public health and underscored the importance of cross-border collaboration in health emergency management.
The Public Health Emergency Management Professional Certification Programme is part of ongoing U.S. support for global health security, equipping emergency operations staff and public health professionals with specialized expertise in preparedness, response, and emergency operations.
