As part of its constitutional oversight responsibilities, the Senate Committee on Army, led by Chairman Senator Abdulaziz Yar’adua, on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, visited the Headquarters Theatre Command of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) at Maimalari Cantonment, Maiduguri.
Speaking during the visit, Senator Yar’adua stated that the committee was at the theatre to assess the utilisation of funds appropriated to the Nigerian Army and to ensure accountability in line with legislative mandates. He reaffirmed the committee’s commitment to supporting the Army’s operational and welfare needs.
He also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for prioritising national security and praised the troops of Operation HADIN KAI for their dedication and sacrifices in the fight against terrorism.
“The committee will escalate the recommendations received during this visit to the relevant authorities and ensure continued budgetary support for the Army’s operations and welfare,” he said.
Welcoming the delegation, Theatre Commander, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, described the visit as both symbolic and encouraging, noting it reflects the Senate’s genuine concern for the wellbeing and effectiveness of troops in the North East.
“This engagement gives us the opportunity to present our current posture, challenges, and areas in need of intervention,” he said, while assuring the lawmakers of the troops’ unwavering resolve and professionalism.
The visit featured the presentation of briefs, signing of the visitor’s book, group photographs, exchange of souvenirs, and inspection of ongoing projects within the Maimalari Military Cantonment.
