NSCDC deploys crack squad to boost security in Abuja

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has launched a specialized elite unit known as “The Crack Squad” to bolster security operations in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

The unit was inaugurated on Tuesday during the graduation ceremony of 200 personnel who completed an eight-week Basic Arms and Weapons Handling Course. The latest batch brings the total number of NSCDC operatives recently trained in the FCT Command to 472.

FCT Commandant, Dr. Olusola Odumosu, said the Crack Squad will serve as a rapid response team, specially trained and tactically equipped to handle high-risk security threats across the territory.

“This third batch of graduands is a clear testament that we are not resting on our oars. The security landscape in the FCT is evolving, and so must we,” Odumosu said.

He emphasized that the training is part of a broader strategy to build an intelligent, responsive, and versatile corps capable of proactive interventions. The command, under his leadership, has undertaken multiple training initiatives, including intelligence gathering, advanced investigation, provost duties, and even sign language.

“This is not the end; it is a continuum,” Odumosu noted, stressing that the newly deployed squad represents a crucial phase in the corps’ transformation agenda.

Commandant General of the NSCDC, Dr. Ahmed Audi, was lauded for his visionary leadership and unwavering support for the FCT Command.

Brig. Gen. Adebisi Onasanya, Commander of the Guards Brigade, commended the high performance of the trainees, particularly during joint task force operations. He described the development as a reflection of the command’s commitment to excellence.

Commissioner of Police, CP Ajao Adewale, also praised the courage and discipline of the graduating officers, urging them to carry out their responsibilities with professionalism.

Representing the FCT Minister, the Director of Security Services, Mr. Olubiyi Sunday, assured continued support from the FCT Administration to ensure the safety of residents.

The ceremony featured the presentation of awards to outstanding trainees, including best shooters, best female instructors, and best-disciplined officers.
