The Executive Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, CON, has given his approval for yet another comprehensive statewide Medical and Surgical outreach program, spanning across all 16 Local Government Areas of the State.
In a press release issued by Falade Gbenga Tayo, the Press Secretary of the Kwara State Ministry of Health, it was announced that Dr. Amina Ahmed El-lmam, the State Commissioner for Health, revealed this important development during a weekend press briefing in Ilorin. The briefing was focused on the various health-related initiatives undertaken within the state to ensure the realization of Universal Health Coverage.
Dr. El-lmam further disclosed that the Governor has greenlit the proposals put forth to offer free Medical, Surgical, and Eye care services in each of the State’s Local Government Areas. This program is set to commence on Thursday, September 28, 2023, beginning at the General Hospital in Erin-Ile, Oyun Local Government Area.
The outreach initiative is designed to encompass a range of services, including medical and eye screenings with subsequent treatment, surgical interventions for common ailments, and operable eye conditions such as hernia, lipomas, cataract, and pterygium. Additionally, reading glasses will be distributed to those in need.
Dr. El-Imam stressed that the primary objective of this endeavor is to assure the public that “the services are completely free and accessible to all members of the community throughout the state.” Furthermore, these interventions will take place at designated healthcare facilities in each Local Government Area on a weekly basis and are expected to span approximately four months to cover the entire state.
She urged the citizens of Kwara State to take full advantage of this opportunity to address longstanding health issues that have gone unattended due to financial constraints.
The Commissioner extended her heartfelt gratitude to Governor AbdulRazaq for his timely intervention, which aims to enhance the overall health and well-being of the people of Kwara State, spanning across every corner of our beloved State of Harmony.
