Chinese President Xi Jinping has sent a condolence message to President Bola Tinubu following the death of former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, describing his passing as “a great loss to the Nigerian people and the Chinese nation.”
In the message issued Wednesday on behalf of the Chinese government and people, President Xi expressed deep condolences and sincere sympathy to Buhari’s family, the Nigerian government, and the people of Nigeria.
He praised Buhari as a key figure in Nigeria’s modern development, who made significant contributions to national unity and progress. Xi noted that Buhari was widely respected in the international community for his leadership and dedication.
Highlighting the late leader’s strong commitment to strengthening Nigeria-China relations, Xi said Buhari was a staunch supporter of China-Africa cooperation and a “dear friend of the Chinese people.”
President Xi reaffirmed China’s commitment to its strategic partnership with Nigeria and expressed willingness to continue deepening bilateral cooperation.
