Army arrests 183 suspected internet fraudsters, cultist in Delta

Troops of the 63 Brigade, Nigerian Army, and Sector 1 Joint Task Force (South-South) Operation Delta Safe have arrested 183 suspected internet fraudsters in Warri, Delta State, following a coordinated raid based on credible intelligence.

In a statement Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations 63 Brigade, Asaba Captain Iliyasu Bawa Rijau said the operation, carried out on July 19, uncovered a suspected cybercrime training hub where the suspects, all males aged between 16 and 29, were apprehended. Recovered items include 274 assorted laptops, 87 mobile phones, nine laptop chargers, a table phone, and two WiFi devices. The suspects and seized items are currently under preliminary investigation.

In a separate operation on the same day, troops arrested a 26-year-old suspected cultist, Mr. Igbe Lucky Chika, in Ezionun Community. He is alleged to be a member of the Viking cult group. Recovered from him were a locally made firearm, an axe, a cutlass, two phones, and a Toyota Camry with registration number Delta ASB 41 BE.

Brigadier General M.A. Shonibare, Commander of 63 Brigade/Sector 1 Joint Task Force, commended the troops for their professionalism and reiterated the military’s commitment to eliminating cybercrime and cult-related violence. He called on the public to continue supporting security forces in the fight against crime.
