Troops recover weapon, ammunition, rescue minor in Plateau

Troops of 3 Division/Operation SAFE HAVEN have recovered arms and rescued a minor in Plateau State during separate operations targeting criminal elements in the region.

In a statement, Media Information Officer Operation SAFE HAVEN Major Samson Nantip Zhakom said acting on credible intelligence, troops ambushed suspected bandits along the Kampani-Kombodoro road in Wase Local Government Area on July 24, 2025. The bandits, armed with AK-47 rifles and mounted on motorcycles, were engaged near Jeb Community.

They fled under heavy fire, abandoning one AK-47 rifle, two magazines, and five rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition. The recovered items are currently in military custody, while efforts are ongoing to track the fleeing suspects.

In a separate operation on July 22, troops rescued a 12-year-old boy during a raid on a suspected criminal hideout in the Riyom area. Investigations revealed that the minor had been sold three years ago by his uncle, who remains at large. The rescued child has been handed over to the Councilor representing Zamko Ward in Langtang North Local Government Area for reunification with his family.

The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to dismantling criminal networks and safeguarding communities in the interest of national security.
