President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, on advancing to the final of the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket for the fifth consecutive time, following a hard-fought 75–68 victory over Senegal in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President hailed the team’s resilience, discipline, and consistent performance, noting that their latest win marks a seventh straight triumph over their Senegalese rivals.
President Tinubu also commended the team for already securing a spot in the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup qualifying tournaments, scheduled for March next year.
He gave special praise to Head Coach Rena Wakama, the team’s first female coach, for her exemplary leadership and impact, both as a former player and now from the sidelines.
“Your discipline, focus, and teamwork have brought pride to Nigeria and earned global recognition for our players and coaches,” the President said.
He assured D’Tigress of his continued support as they aim to clinch their fifth straight AfroBasket title and seventh overall.
