Nigeria and Algeria have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening diplomatic relations following a high-level meeting between Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, and his Algerian counterpart, Ahmed Attaf.
According to a statement on Sunday by Alkasim AbdulKadir, spokesperson for the Nigerian foreign minister, both leaders discussed shared strategic interests and pledged enhanced cooperation across political, economic, and multilateral spheres.
The discussions focused on revitalizing the Nigeria-Algeria Binational Commission, strengthening regional coordination, and advancing African priorities on the global stage.
In a related development, Minister Tuggar performed the groundbreaking ceremony for a new Chancery building for Nigeria’s Embassy in Algiers. The event, held in Dely Ibrahim—the Algerian capital’s diplomatic enclave—was attended by senior government officials, embassy staff, and members of the Nigerian community in Algeria.
Tuggar described the project as a milestone in modernizing Nigeria’s diplomatic infrastructure. The new Chancery will feature eco-friendly design elements, upgraded security systems, and improved facilities aimed at enhancing consular services and working conditions for diplomatic staff.
Construction is set to commence immediately and is expected to be completed within 18 months. The project aligns with the Ministry’s broader reform agenda to strengthen Nigeria’s global presence and foster international partnerships.
